Can Cash App Transactions be Traced? How to Track Your Cash App Card?

June 9, 2022

Yes, Police and Authorities can track down your Cash app transactions when there is a legitimate need that requires legal rights to do so, warrants. However. Cash App transactions cannot be traced and all Cash App transactions are already private by default without legal orders.

Police and authorities cannot directly track your Cash App payments on their own without a warrant.

Can Cash App be traced? Can you delete your Cash App transaction history?

Let’s discuss them below!

The Short answer is – No, Cash App transactions cannot be traced. There’s also no need to delete since all of your Cash App past and future transactions are already private by default.

You need not change anything on settings to hide your transactions from others. Your transaction history can be viewed only by you and anyone who has access to your account (i.e you and whom you share your account credentials).

You alone get access and can trace your Cash App transactions. Here are the steps to track Cash App transactions:

How to Track Your Cash App Card transactions?

How to Track your Cash App

  1. Launch the Cash App on your phone.

  2. Click on the Activity tab from the home screen.

  3. It will show all your transaction history.

  4. Each payment is labeled their payment method – Debit/ Credit card, Cash Card, and wallet balance.

  5. Click on each payment to review your transactions and view the details of the payments.

  6. Click “back” to go back homepage once you are done.

For future reference, you can also download and even print out your Cash App transaction history.

Head to your Activity tab and from the statement tab, select the month of the payments and control+P to give the print command.

Does The IRS Track Cash App?

No, the IRS cannot track your Cash app payments unless Cash App discloses them for a reasonably necessary reason.

According to their Safety and Compliance with Law Policy section, it states that for some terms and conditions under which Cash App legally has to share the details to comply with any applicable law, regulation process, or governmental request (For instance, tax creditors, law enforcement agencies including the IRS, in response to a garnishment, levy, or lien notice, etc.)

Can Police track Cash App?

From the above policy, you can see that even the police cannot trace your Cash App payments directly but can request details for applicable law.

Tax Report to IRS

UPDATE: New IRS rule will affect cash app users and if you are using your cash app for business and make more than $600 a year in transactions, the IRS wants to know and Cash app will notify the IRS for business transactions and generate a 1099K form automatically.

The previous threshold for Cash App was $20,000. Starting next year, the IRS wants you to report everything about the $600.

The Square-owned Cash App currently does not report on behalf of its sellers to the IRS.

The Two criteria to qualify for a 1099-K is that you must reach $600 in gross sales from goods or services in the calendar year.

Tax law requires that if you reach both the above criteria, you are mandatory to file a corresponding tax form with the IRS.

Does Cash app send you a 1099-K Form?

If you have a Cash App for Business accounts, you will receive a 1099-K form for those who have reached over $600 in a calendar year cumulatively with Square.

How do I Delete my Cash App transaction history?

Cash App unfortunately doesn’t allow you to delete your transaction history.

If you are worried about others tracing your transaction, you shouldn’t be as all of your transactions are already private by default, the only person who can see the transaction is the other person involved in the payment.

If you are really paranoid about it and really need to make your payment history go away, the only option is to delete/ close your account altogether.

There’s really no need to make your transactions private as they already are.

When you tap on the payment, it only displays the payment details along with whether it is pending or completed. The three dots in the top-right corner only lead you to a web receipt or contact Support.

If you are looking to cancel pending payments, you can do it right from the app. Simply go to the activity tab and click on the transaction that you want to cancel and tap the cancel tab.

Can you Track your Cash App card?

Unfortunately, no Cash App card cannot be traced if you lost it. You can report it as lost or stolen and get a new card. There’s no option to physically track your Cash App debit card, and the smart chips can’t do it for you.

The process of disabling your Cash App card is quite simple. This feature is really helpful if your card is stolen and avoid the other person to use your funds.

Temporarily Disable my Cash Card

  • Open Cash App on your Phone
  • Tap the Cash Card tab from your Cash App home screen.
  • Tap the image of your Cash Card.
  • Toggle Enable Cash Card to off.

Final Thoughts:

Cash App is a Square mobile app designed to instantly send and receive payments within the United States, currently, it won’t work for other international exchanges.

Similar to Venmo, it also doesn’t allow you to delete your transaction history, but with Venmo’s, there is an option to make all your past and future transactions private or public, but all Cash App transactions are private by default and your transaction history cannot be traced.
